Wills, Power of Attorneys, and Estates

Wills, Power of Attorneys, and Estates in Ottawa

Choose Bunning & Farnand in Ottawa for legal assistance related to drafting wills, power of attorneys, and estates. One of our primary services is will-drafting which includes standard wills that are quick and inexpensive, and specialized wills such as Limited wills for clients with holding companies. If you need someone to make financial and healthcare decisions for you, we recommend you both to sign Power of Attorneys concurrent with your wills. Effective May 1, 2023, we charge:

$650 plus HST for a standard will and two power of attorneys for a couple

$495.00 plus  HST for a standard will and two power of attorneys for a single person

If you are unable to attend our office, we can accommodate you by visiting your home or a hospital for an additional cost. Some clients have physically challenged adult children. We usually recommend a 'Henson Trust' clause in the parents' will to better safeguard assets for their physically challenged children.

Estates

Since we have drafted wills for many years, we therefore also have much experience in probating and administration of estates. We have also litigated wills that were ambiguously prepared by laypeople, etc. While we can advise executors on managing an estate, we can also handle executor’s duties if required. Since our inception, we have probated over 2,500 wills. All wills are probated by obtaining a Certificate of Appointment of Estate Trustee for the executor.

Survivorship Application

If a property is owned jointly by the deceased and the spouse, registering a Survivorship Application can help avoid probate. This will have an effect on transferring the property to the surviving spouse. For further information, give us a call today.

Effective November 1, 2022, our all-inclusive fee for a survivorship application is $700.00.
